COMAH Plan

This plan sets out the off-site procedures if a major incident with off-site consequences is declared at a COMAH Site in Bedfordshire.

  1. To provide the appropriate multi-agency response to a major incident at a top-tier COMAH site
  2. Containment and control of incidents so to minimise the effects, and to limit damage to persons, property and the environment
  3. Implement the measures necessary to protect persons and the environment from the effects of major incidents
  4. Communicate the necessary information to the public and to the emergency services and authorities concerned in the area
  5. Provision for the restoration and clean-up of the environment following a major incident.

What you should do:

Local residents near the site have already been written to.

The site operators will contact the local residents by phone or personal visits if an incident occurs on site. The police will use local radio to provide information – those affected should 'Go in, Stay in, and Tune in'.
