Energy supply disruption
Handy tips during a power cut
The energy infrastructure in the UK is generally robust and future failures are unlikely. However, transmission systems are complex and failures occurring randomly, for human or technical reasons, can never be completely ruled out.
A green approach to your energy needs can increase your resilience as well as that of the energy network. This means installing loft insulation, cavity wall filling, double glazing, draught insulation for exterior doors, and energy-efficient light bulbs, and using smallscale renewable sources such as a solar heater for your hot water. In the process, you also reduce your energy bills.
Luton Borough Council has an award-winning fuel poverty programme – Affordable Warming Strategy.
Central Bedfordshire Council has an excellent webpage on how to increase energy efficiency in your home.
For more information call the Energy Saving Trust on 0845 727 7200. You can contact your local energy advice centre – Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEAC) – on 0800 512 012 or email to beds@eeac.net.
